holy tomatoes

So you may have noticed I've been completely absent from the blog the past week or so. My xmas was pure craziness and I really wanted to spend as much time as I could with my family, especially with my sweet grandma. I've also been working strange horrible hours at work so bear with me. Besides the excuses already mentioned, and in addition to now catching the most horrible stomach flu, I've been literally hooked on this...
That's not my cat, unfortunately, but it's a lot cuter than me. I lurrrve my new wii. I managed to score pretty much everything on my Christmas list, including the Kors boots I was drooling over, Influence, and this rad photo umbrella thing that I'll probably feature once it looks more polished. I actually didn't really get too many fashion-related items, mostly because I'm really picky, and for some reason, people always tend to think I'm into things like patent belts and Victoria's Secret's pink line apparel. Go figure.

So instead of asking for stuff, I saved my money and used it towards a few major scores in the sale department of asos. Among my purchases were
A shearling biker jacket, which I've wanted foreeevvvver. I love shearling, and I love the twist on the classic biker jacket. We shall see. May be horrendous in person.

A minor tu-tu. I don't think I can graduate to the full out poofiness of a regular tu-tu just yet, so this is a start. I love the colour.

leave it to me to find the one thing not on sale during a 75% off event. But seriously, jumpsuits are just the loveliest things ever. Especially ones that will keep me warm during this chilly season. Public washrooms may get complicated though, I haven't quite figured that one out yet...
and this is what I wore today:

all I want for Christmas is you

Can I just admit right now how much I adore the holiday season? Minus the crazy consumerism and greediness, these are some of the reasons I heart Christmas:

1) eggnog and pumpkin spice lattes by a blinking, shiny tree
2) ribbons and wrapping paper in every pattern and colour
3) adults feel compelled to be nicer even if they know Santa isn't watching
4) mistletoes

I also love my new(ish) hoody dress from asos. The quality is meh, but really, the easiness of this outfit is unbelievable. I also decided to bust out these boots I got a while ago but haven't worn yet.The zippers on them are pretty far out, right?

What I'm wearing:
shoes:asos
hoody dress: asos
jacket: Forever 21
clutch: Barney's

And just in case y'all are curious, here's my Christmas list:

1) weird Kors duckboot flannel hybrid boots: Everybody keeps telling me that they're ugly, but it only makes me more attracted to them. Rawr.

2) The Olsen twins' Influence: obviously.
3)

The infamous studded converses. One day they will be mine, mark my words.
4)
An American Apparel lame(eh) backpack: I hate handbags. There, I said it. Everybody says you're either a shoe person or a handbag person and I pretty certain I'm the former. How much easier would thrifting be with this?
5) The not out yet AA shirt dress: Yeah, you might not have seen this yet, but I'm just that on top of things.....or obsessed with the coming soon section of the website.
6) lots of cheesy Christmas socks and slippers: nothing better in life than fuzzy penguin socks, admit it.
7) a Wii: I need to expand my useless interests. Just don't hate me if I neglect to post for the next few months while trying to master smash bros.
8) Every year my family, instead of giving gifts, gives to organizations like ten thousand villages, so that we can spread a little cheer to those that are not as fortunate as we are. Consider spreading the love this year, I guarantee it'll make your xmas a little bit merrier.
And now, I'll leave you with my personal fav., the lovely Mariah

Cheers kids. xxoo.

paparazzi

My job today was to take cute pictures of my nephew's kindergarten class Christmas play. They were freakin adorable. My nephew was especially excited because he got to play Joseph and drag his friend, who unfortunately had the role of the donkey, around the whole time. Anyways, I've been defaulting to black and neutrals a LOT lately, and although it seems to go quite well with the dreary winter weather, it's really starting to bum me out. I resisted the urge to pull out a hibiscus-clan ensemble however and settled for a happy medium. I also rocked one of my cashmere skirts that has literally collected dust in my closet. I need to start equally wearing the clothes I buy. New Years resolution?

By the way, I was randomly browsing through youtube and I discovered that two of my top three actresses, Brigette Bardot and Claudia Cardinale (my top three being Audrey Hepburn, Brigette Bardot, and Claudia Cardinale) were in a film together! What's more, is that they have three seperate showdowns in it, including this awesome fight scene

freedom

I know, I know, where the eff have I been, right? Well, for one, my city and therefore my life has been in complete and utter chaos this week after being hit with a double dose of severe weather conditions and an enormous public transportation strike...all in the middle of exam season. You can read about my encounter in the newspaper http://www.ottawacitizen.com/City+with+double+whammy/1060975/story.html (although I'm cited as Micki). I should also note that public transpo is, like many others, how I get to school, and so of course its been horrendous for students to try and get to school for exams. I finished my last exam yesterday though, so basically that means.....freeeeedom. Ya right. Actually I'll be working all weekend and then...freeeeedom. haha. Today I headed to my dad's for his annual family Christmas party and it was great as usual. I come from a huge family (four sisters, two brothers, three step-brothers, two step-sisters, you get the point), and so Christmas is always really nice since we can all come together and enjoy the season. Plus, my dad and my stepmom make killer cocktails. I had no clue what to wear so I opted for my new studded sweater and went the lulu route with my cape and fur collar. Easy as 1-2-3. Ciao babies, I'm still reeling from my back-to-back-to-back all nighters!!!

for the person that asked where my cape is from, its actually a Canadian store, but I've heard H&M is stocked with them and you should try checking out stores like charlotte russe, since they seem to be making their way into the mainstream now. Good luck:)

a thousand thanks

I'm totally exhausted, I've spent the past three days straight studying with practically no sleep. I don't even remember what exams I wrote today, when I was at school from 11 am to 10:30 pm, but I do recall getting bombarded with warm messages from my wonderful readers. Aw shucks you guys. I just think we should also keep in mind that the people like Karla for instance and myself that we refer to as curvy are like a size 4 lol. It's kind of a strange concept when we consider that to be volumptious, no? Especially considering what the majority of women look like in the "real world". Does anybody have stats on what the actual average size is for women? Anyways I guess that's just how the cookie crumbles when you inject yourself into the fashion world;)
So last night I picked up my lovely bf's Xmas presents from http://www.asos.com/, and of course, you guys could probably guess that I couldn't just buy stuff for him, I mean, come on, it's ASOS!!!! So I was proud of myself for resisting buying another jacket and instead picked up:
I think the fur stole will be amazing with my new cape and my blazers and so on. I'm not huge on fur or fake fur since I don't think I'm cool enough to rock it, but I will attempt a mini version!
The sweater I got over-sized to make it slouchy. I think it'll be amazing, and I gave away almost all my sweaters to the needy (more than I thought!) and so I either have to stock up or freeze to death.
Btw, I layered my cape with the wool one from the vintage sale today and I couldn't even tell it was winter. New winter staple? I need so. Ciao babies, I gotta go help set up for my nephew's pirate paty tomorrow. Ar.

Dear Anonymous....you suck.

Yes you, the one who goes on blogs all day long and loves to point out whatever flaws they can muster up to gorgeous personal style bloggers all over the net, kindly go eff yourself. This blog is not for you. I like to consider this a style journal that my stylish friends and I can enjoy, as I can enjoy theirs. You think I'm fat, that my thighs are too big, that my clothes are too tight. I suffered for most of high school with an eating disorder and trust me, the skin and bones look is not for everyone, and is not going to improve your life. I am so happy with myself these days, and while I may not be the under 100 pound person I used to be, dammit I think the curvy look is still pretty damn sexy;) If you don't, dear sad person, I think I might still get by. Ciao xxoo

For the future, I've been considering banning anonymous users, but I know a few of the readers don't have google or blogs so I don't really want to make them suffer for anonymous dumb dumbs. What do you guys think????

rojas

I really really really shouldn't even be on here since I have two exams tomorrow back to back and haven't finished the readings for them, but I figured I've been keeping y'all waiting on more of the cape for way too long and plus, I'm tiiiiired. I didn't even remember I owned this skirt until I saw a actress on 90210 wearing it. Shows how often I wear it. In fact, the last time I wore it was in Florida, which seemed much more suitable weather-wise than frosty Canada. Did I mention my heating is broken? Argh, back to the books.

cyber funday

I really didn't find any purchase-worthy items today unfortunately, but I did have a lot of fun browsing. Was anybody else disappointed by shopbop's lack of bargains this year? I thought for sure I'd be maxing out a few credit cards there. Oh well, probably for the best. Just another quick note, PLEASE please be careful, safe, and considerate when doing your holiday shopping this year. I've heard too many disgusting stories thus far this year about INSANE greediness and trust me, a person's life is not worth that marked down plasma tv. Ya heard? Ok so ironically I didn't buy anything on black Friday or Cyber Monday, but happened to shop on nothing special Saturday. I'm so thrifty, I know. Anyways, I simply had to after discovering a vast assortment of capes at Urban Behaviour. I was torn between a few, but decided on this black, more versatile version that is made of wool and thus becoming an itchy pain in the ass. But I still heart it. I also grabbed this lame bodysuit from AA that I think my bf wanted more than me. I adore it, and have been disgustingly wearing it around 24/7.
