and the winner is....

Let me just say, I have maybe the best readers EVER. You guys really helped me out with the whole dress dilemma. I ended up going with what the majority of you voted for...

#2. One lovely and honest reader did make the good point that the dress itself may be too showy for a ball. After all, it's above the knee, it has an open back, and the corset top is a little risque. I took this into account when I decided to pair the dress with

"velvet feel" black opaque tights,

This lovely plaid trench coat,
And a cute pair of leather gloves with zippers to add a little edge. Hopefully my additions will eliminate the sleaze factor a little! I haven't forgotten about shoes, in case you're wondering, I'm just currently stumped on which to wear. I have one pair of Oh Deer Loub knockoffs that would be great, but the thought of running around in heels that are horrendously uncomfortable gives me shivers. So if anybody has any suggestions shoe wise, holler at your girl. Ciao xxoo.

although i voted for the red dress: great choices! and with the coat, tights and gloves, it's totally ball-appropriate. shoes-wise, i'd go for black ones, since all the other accessories are black as well and it's the most classic choice. if you have some comfy heels, definitely wear those!
and don't forget to take some pictures! can't wait to see the whole outfit in you!

love it!

just a few questions because you mentioned that you ordered from asos.com before...

does canadian customs end up charging duties on the items?

also, is a UK 6 equal to a size 0?

i really love the site and to order some stuff but i just wanted some advice. Shipping is really cheap so thats a great plus!

anon, asos is by far one of my favorite retailers. Their customer service, along with shopbop and Karmaloop, is exceptional. That said, I have no idea off by heart what the size conversion is, they have a chart on the website on any item you click that will tell you though. they also list US to UK shoe sizes, which is actually bang on.
As for the customs duties thing, that a tricky question. The first time or two I ordered I paid a pretty hefty amount (about $30-40 each order of $150), but haven't paid a cent since. I guess maybe because I order a lot, they cover the total amount and therefore I don't pay a percentage. So I'm really not sure. Anyways, hope that helps!! thanks for reading luv.

Great match on the dress and coat and these gloves will add just the perfect amount of sophistication!

Lucky you going to the inauguration ball. Your outfit is gorgeouys and def appropriate.
I'm just taking the subway a couple of stops and standing along the parade rout or on the mall.

So my life pretty much equals FAIL :P
